Masters degrees

The Master of Professional Accounting (MPA) will enable non-accounting university graduates and other approved applicants the opportunity to acquire an accounting qualification recognised by the Australian accounting professional bodies.

I have been doing some research about studying Accountancy, and was beginning to think that the only way I'd be able to become qualified was to basically start again with uni; I have a Bachelors degree but it's in Arts, not Business, and it seemed like all the postgraduate programs required a Business major, or previous relevant work history. The thought of starting again with university, another 3 years of undergraduate studying, made me almost want to give up altogether. But some girls on the Vogue forums pointed me in the direction of a Masters of Professional Accounting degree (and other similar Masters degrees), and I have been eagerly researching universities and courses online, in between work (of course :D).

I am so excited; there are quite a few similar degrees at different universities in Australia, and many of them can be done via distance education, which means I can keep working full-time (not having to worry about getting to lectures and that sort of thing will make juggling full-time work & study a lot easier), not to mention not being limited to just the universities in my state. I am not sure yet whether I would study on a full-time basis or go part-time, but I am definitely going to consider applying for enrolment for a July 2007 intake. The courses I am looking at are accredited by the major Accounting & Chartered Accounting institutes in Australia, and are from 1 year (full-time) & upwards in length. Longer for part-time, of course.

I feel so positive about all this. I feel like I am finally putting my degree to good use (as a springboard into something a lot more prosperous), and finally could be working towards something. I have always felt like I was floundering, not being sure of what I actually wanted to do, but knowing that I wanted more in my career than just a job. Maybe I am starting to head down the right path, and do something that has a future and opportunities. Something that I want.
