corporate gypsie

I had my first temp job yesterday, just 3 hours at the Adelaide University. It was just admin assistant work, apparently I was too fast though (I did my original 3 hours work in um, 45 minutes, and then my supervisor was trying to find more work for me to do to fill up my 3 hours). She said she wanted to keep me, and that I would have no problems getting additional temp work, based on my performance that day. I have a week long assignment starting from next Friday, full-time hours for 6 days, so I am feeling pretty positive about it all.

Noel says I am a corporate gypsie, and I like the way that sounds. This is good practice for London; I haven't started a new job in 3 years (my dad's business doesn't count, and before that I was at Zurich for 2 1/2 years, where I gained familiarity and a strange sense of security), so this is breaking down my fears of walking into a new office, not knowing anyone, not knowing where anything is. I kept taking wrong turns in the office yesterday and getting lost, and I learnt to just laugh it off. I suspect I'll be doing a lot of that in the weeks to come. For someone who is very used to being in her comfort zone, it's not a bad thing to push myself to try new things, be in new situations and places. Meeting new people and wearing my corporate face again.

I have been photocopying and scanning in documents to take with me to London, bureaucratic paperwork that I'm trying not to let overwhelm me. Feeling organised is my best defense when it comes to staying sane, especially when I'm in the process of moving overseas.
