holiday season
I am actually looking forward to Christmas and the holiday season this year. Last year, obviously, was far too painful and I barely wanted to acknowledge the holidays and everything we had lost; but I am feeling much more hopeful this year, and trying to look ahead.

This year has been one of looking forward.

Noel & I are hosting Christmas lunch at our place this year; it's the first time I've cooked a Christmas lunch myself, and I'm very excited. Though Noel has already warned me about going overboard (who, me?) but I am excited to decorate and cook and have family over for a small celebration. We are not sure yet if Millie and Ben will be there (we might have Christmas dinner with them instead, depending on what their other family plans are), but I am crossing my fingers that they will. Otherwise it's just my immediate family (Noel's family all live interstate, but his sister is coming down to stay afterwards), but that's okay too.

What are some of your favourite things to eat at Christmas, or favourite things to bake? I have a few ideas already, a summer lunch spread.

&also, Christmas cards! I am going to try and send some out this year, so I thought I should start collecting addresses, just in case:

Poll #1088765 holiday cards

name & address?

what holiday (if any) do you celebrate?

Or you can email me if you like ( jade at faerywinged dot org).

Oh I miss Christmas at home so much. When I was younger there was always Christmas Eve at either my mom's mum (cold meats, sandwich fixings and some desserts) or my Aunt Dee's (more of the same and a shrimp plate, my fave!). Christmas dinner with my gran was (and still is) a big spread of oven roasted ham (with pineapples and cherries YUM) and rolls, mashed potatoes, different kinds of salads and pies. But those are the queen examples of OVERBOARD(tm) ;) This isn't to mention all the baking she does for weeks. And my grandpa does party mix by the tub (the BEST ever). I love making chocolate chip cookies, I used to leave them for Santa every year.

I'll stop babbling :) I've got a coupla easy dessert recipes you may like if you want (for squares and brownies).

my family is small,s o we have a small buffet on christmas instead of a large dinner. i generally end up baking some kind of bread, usually pumpkin, or gingerbread [not like the cookies, but actual bread]. my sister makes this fabulous twisted cinnamon bread called "monkey bread." you can find a recipe for that here:

Back home i always used to bake biscuits at christmas for presents and for us to eat. I usually made florentines (cos they look festive), ginger cookies and choc chip biscuits.
as for eating on the day its really boring but i love a good turkey!

Hi Jazz! :) So good to be in touch again. I hope you still remember me. How've you been, how's life treating you? You seem to be doing well! I'm now living in Jakarta, been here for about 3 years now, currently working for an Australian company in the field of international aid. I was just in Melbourne recently! Would've given you a buzz had I known your phone # or something :) Well take care sweetie!
