"a fabulous transforming moment for the country"
THEY ARE DECLARING THAT LABOUR HAVE WON THE ELECTION, AFTER JUST 3 HOURS OF VOTE COUNTING.

I am sitting here crying, I am so, so fucking happy. My faith in this country has been restored beyond belief tonight; watching the election count, the results showing strong Labour preferences. Seeing electorates that were previous Liberal seats changing to Labour, hearing the cheers from the people outside the tally room, cheering for a new government. John Howard, our now FORMER Prime Minister may even lose his seat in the House of Representatives - his electorate is currently on the fence, swinging towards a possible Labour hold instead of Liberal for the first time EVER. This would be only the second time in Australia's history that a Prime Minister has not just lost government control, but also his own seat in the House of Representatives.

John Howard has been so cocky, arrogant, and dismissive of ordinary Australians, not just throughout this election campaign, but for the last several years. To see him lose government AND his own seat is sweet, sweet victory.

OMFG. I am so incredibly happy right now. I am so proud of this country, so proud for doing the right thing.

That's awesome.

I'm desperately hoping for a similar election day in the States next November. I want some happy tears this time around - not the depressed miserable ones I shed the last two general elections . . .

Yaaaaaaaaaaaay!

I'm so jealous, both that your country got the change it needed and that the people were willing to do it. I went through real heartbreak when John Kerry lost the 2004 election to George W Bush, so I know the bitterness that comes with not getting the change you felt was needed.

I'm so happy for you!

I'm far from ecstatic, because I'm don't entirely trust Rudd (in particular his glbtq policies). But - no more Howard, haha hahaha. I hope he did lose his seat to Maxine McKew. It is a far lovelier day today than it was yesterday. ;)
